Stephen Colbert’s Hidden Hobbit Cameo

It’s well-known that fake news funnyman Stephen Colbert is a massive Tolkien fan, evidenced by that time when he schooled self-proclaimed #1 Tolkien fan James Franco on the Colbert Report. Or that other time¬†where he schooled self-proclaimed #1 Tolkien fan James Franco on the Colbert Report… again.

Needless to say, Colbert’s Middle-earth mania earned him notice from Peter Jackson, who invited the whole Colbert clan down to New Zealand to cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Sneak Peek

With less than 3 weeks to go to opening day, Warner Bros. has released a 3-minute sneak peek of what the The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will have to offer.

Through mists, mountains, Masters and muttering, we see a bit more of Middle Earth and the characters in it fleshed out. It’s well-known that the franchise is delving far deeper into this period of history than the book did – way deeper. It’s a simple equation, really: more history = more movies = more money. A truth I’m trying to politely avoid while attempting to get lost in the story.

Lake Town’s Bard makes his first appearance in this instalment, as does Evangeline Lily’s mysterious Tauriel. We even see a split-second shot of a lumbering Beorn. So despite some personal problems I have with the first movie, I’m still holding out hope to be captivated by a kind of magic that doesn’t come out of a wizard’s staff.

Trailer Watch – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Ai! Ai! Hobbit-watchers, this first glorious (or mysteriously foggy if you are where I am) day of October sees the release of the full HD trailer for the next instalment of The Hobbit franchise.

Personally, I’m stoked to finally see more of Middle Earth: Mirkwood, Erebor, the Woodland Realm and even Dol Guldur, which was just a whisper in Tolkien lore until now. Have a watch and let me know what you think in the comments below:
