Future Finn: ‘Adventure Time’ Cosplay at its Most Mathematical!

Once in a generation a hero is found. A hero who represents all that is good and wonderful in the world. Ladies and gentlemen, I have found our hero… and he goes by the name of Beard Finn.

Like many heroes, little is known about this mysterious figure. He’s got a Tumblr account. There’s a Facebook account that may or may not actually be his (I’m guessing not). The mystery deepens.

What we do know is that he took a beloved character and expanded his universe into an awesome bearded and tattooed future. He’s portrayed adult Finn at Otakon 2011 and 2012, and in much the same way that Batman inspired John Blake, Beard Finn has inspired work by my new favourite artist Daryl Toh Liem Zhan.  Check out Zhan’s Tumblr for more of his amazing work.

But the question remains: who is this mysterious man and why must he stay so silent? I ask, nay, beseech you, oh awesomely-bearded-one: tell us more about yourself. Who are you? Where are you from? How do you get your beard to be so freakin’ awesome? I’m turning on the Bat-Signal and summoning you.

Or, since it’s Adventure Time, I’m throwing a giant bag of butter at you to begin a prank war. And it’s going to be a heck of a prank war because I am super mad at you… for some reason. Tell him, Jake!

Pendleton Ward’s Vine Account Is Like Bacon Pancakes For Your Brain

Adventure Time creator and all around fun guy Pendleton Ward has a Vine account and it is 100% nerd candy.

Filled with rough sketches on whatever is nearby, bits of storyboards, self portraits and fun videos, it’s a really great way to waste an afternoon.

Here are a few of my favourites (click on the image for the link):

Library Lovin’

I’ve always had a soft spot for libraries, and I know I’m not the only one. Libraries, and the librarians who run them, seem to have endless supplies of cool ideas for projects and programs.

Take this library in Naperville, Illinois, whose TAG Team (Teen Advisory Group) celebrated Teen Tech Week by creating Post-it note pixel versions of Adventure Time characters:

Adventure Time – The Volume

Nerds can’t get enough of this science-fantasy cartoon created by Pendleton Ward. So when my friend Bob lent me his copy of the graphic novel, I couldn’t help but shout “There’s an Adventure Time book?! Hooray!!” I then insisted we engage in a bro-like fist bump – to which Bob was mildly amused.

The comic series was written by independent writer Ryan North – you know, that funny dude who created Dinosaur Comics (and pssssst… he’s Canadian!). Keep reading >
