Happy Birthday, Saddy Deathday?

Warning: The following is a rant of epic proportions…

So, my mother’s birthday dinner was tonight as planned. It kicked off well – Dylan picked me up and I was in good spirits, heading over with a great recipe under one arm and a wrapped BSG Bluray set under the other.

Dinner was delicious, conversation was flowing like dwarven stout in Ironforge, things were good!

…Until the gift-giving started. I TRIED to explain all the hot guys, rich storylines and action scenes to my mother when she opened BSG, but…I could tell she didn’t like it, and just because it looked like a space-y “alternative” show. That really hurt… :(

Dylan excused himself to get something from the car and when he came back, he was holding a HUGE basket of bath oils, soaps and a day pass to a new local spa. Naturally, my mother LOVED it.

…And that hurt even more.

I’d poured a lot of thought into getting my mother something I thought we could both enjoy! Sure, I knew there was a chance she wouldn’t like it, but I was hopeful! And seeing my heartfelt gift get shot down and Dylan’s impersonal bath set put up on a pedestal? Really REALLY disappointing…

Then on the way home Dylan asked me why I’d get my mom “something that you know she’d never like.”

Yes, maybe I was still a little tired from double-shifting, and yes, maybe I was a little jealous about how Dylan’s gift went over, but…needless to say I kind of snapped.

How can he say she’d never like it?? BSG is a great series! And she’s MY mother, right?? Plus – isn’t he the one who was encouraging me to get her something we might both enjoy?!

Sigh……..we had a biiiig fight and both went our separate ways in miserable moods. Sometimes people fight over stupid things, but this one was over stuff that really mattered. I need to think about what to do…

All in all, not the best of nights. Happy Birthday for mom. Saddy Deathday for me…

  1. Please, please, please dump Dylan. It takes a major dick to upstage you at your mom’s b-day. He’s determined to show you how messed up you are and how easily he could fix you. You’re better than that. He’s gotta go.

    • Thanks so much for your support! I went ahead and took your advice – feeling a little sad about it but not as much as I expected. Actually feel quite free!
